Allow me to introduce a new company, Stout Made, to the automotive enthusiast. Founded by automotive enthusiast and former COBB hard part engineer, Josh Tenny, we will strive to bring the highest quality, best designed, and artfully executed products to our fellow car nuts.
A little bio of the founder. I have been a car nut since…….well, as long as I can remember. My first car builds were with with my Legos. Later on it moved on to repairing my dad’s van. Finally I made my way into drag cars in my mid teens. After a few years of American muscle I broadened my horizons by purchasing my first import, a first generation Rx-7. The bug hit and ownership of Rx-7′s and Miata’s ensued as well as working with enthusiasts and industry leaders on projects such as single turbo Supras and Rx-7′s. The purchase of a 2001 Impreza RS sealed the deal and led to a job with COBB Tuning. Starting with shipping, sales, and customer support, I gained knowledge and experience working my way into fabrication, R&D, and production. I enjoy pretty much all cars from rat rods to time attack imports. As long as you get in it and drive the wheels off of it, we will we be friends.
The formula for Stout Made product will be simple. A high quality, well built, and well executed part that produces the best results while suiting the needs of the enthusiast in a real world situation.
Performance - Simply put our product has to perform. While we cannot say cost is not a factor, we will not produce a part that has compromises that significantly effect performance. Examples are using castings when possible to achieve the best possible flow in complex shapes, and not using poor flowing chambered mufflers. Also, on the intake side of things we will use heat rejecting materials such as silicone when possible to reduce intake air temperatures.
Bang-for-the-Buck – This means that all things considered, our product will cost less. This does not just mean that it will be cheap in initial cost. Cheap product has a much higher probability of costing more due to additional fabrication for proper fitment, and replacement as the poorly made part fails. So in the large view a well made, proper fitting product will cost less to you, the enthusiast since you will not need to modify it to make it fit or fix it when it brakes. Some companies choose to offer a warranty on their cheap product. They rely on their incredibly low cost for the product to allow for a higher rate of replacement. While this can reduce the cost of having to replace the product for the consumer, many times you pay for shipping. You also have to pay for multiple installations, or in your time to install and uninstall multiple times. Wouldn’t you rather be enjoying your car? We choose not to use this “method” for our product as we believe it costs you less in money and time, is less work for both you and us, and frankly we have more pride in our work than that.
Sound - Another factor is that these products often do not fit another set of qualifications. For the street they can be too loud. While light weight is a factor we consider, we do not do so at the expense of making the product sound…..well……not like a performance car should. Who wants their car to sound like industrial equipment? Your car being loud, while cool at first or in some situations can wear at you when not on the track, or when the newness wears off. This can increase the cost for many people as they have to then sell that product at a loss and purchase one that suits their needs better. We also work to make our turbo-back or header-back exhausts follow the SAE J1169 limit of 95dB. This allows you to enjoy your car while not having to worry with noise regulations.
Fitment - To us fitment is not if it just fits. We prefer that it allow the most ground clearance and follow the path that allows the most room to the car’s components. Not only does this make it fit on the car, but it protects critical components such as tubes, sensors, and axle boots. While we do follow the path that allows to do this with the least amount of bends possible, is it worth it to loose a few degrees of bend with no measurable increase in flow if it melts an axle boot?
Craftsmanship - We like to take our time to make sure we do the best on each and every part od every product. Exhaust, intake, and intercooler tubing usually followas a path that flows with the lines in that part of the car. Welds are done properly so that they can both be structurally sound as well as to show that the person welding cares for each weld. We take pride in our work and want it to show so that you can have pride in your car and components.
Now you know a little about us. At the moment I am working on getting the full capitol to really get things running at the pace I want. At the moment Stout Made is building on a contract basis for customers already in the industry.
